The experience
A 4x4 transfer takes you 70km deep into the desert from Douz to meet the caravan of dromedaries, your guide and the camel drivers. The first day is spent walking across the large red-ochre dunes. You can ride your dromedary when tired. A stop around 10am brings a small cake and fruit. At noon you prepare lunch together, a pancake cooked over a wood fire. As sunset approaches, the group sets up camp in the dunes. Dinner and a musical evening happen around the fire, and you sleep under the stars in a Quechua tent provided for each participant.
The second day begins with breakfast at the bivouac. You walk in the morning, each person mounted on a dromedary. Another 30-minute break at 10am, then lunch is prepared together and eaten before a short rest. After two days in the middle of nowhere, a 4x4 transfer brings you back to Douz, with an estimated arrival around 4pm.
