The experience
The tour starts two hours before sunset on the Manor Del Suzanne terrace overlooking forested fields, where your guide points out hummingbirds and other forest birds before you head into the trails. You walk the forest floor, home to red brocket deer, ocelots, agouti, turtles and tegu lizards, then spend the last 15 minutes of daylight by the river watching for river otters, caimans and Grey-cowled Wood-Rails. The pace is built around light and animal behavior, not a fixed schedule.
After sunset, the evening stroll along Poui Walk takes you past a shallow pond where rainy-season wildlife congregates (bring a torch and sturdy footwear). You walk toward the Grove, pausing to listen for owls and the sounds of animals that forage at night. The tour ends back on the terrace with ice tea before you leave. The three-hour span covers both the active daylight search and the listening portion after dark, so you experience the estate's wildlife across two very different rhythms.
