The experience

You start at Bali Hai Pier (Pier No. 1) in central Pattaya, where a speedboat departs every 30 minutes between 4pm and 10pm. The ride out to the floating cafe takes minutes. Once you arrive, a signature drink is waiting. Something to sip while you settle into the open-air lounge and take in the view across Pattaya Bay. The cafe itself is built to stay afloat, with cozy seating arranged around the water and upbeat music filling the space as the light begins to shift.

Squid hooking happens on a first-come, first-served basis, so seating for the activity is limited. You get a line and hook, and the squid are there in the water around the platform. Once you hook one, the kitchen takes over: you choose whether you want it prepared as sashimi or grilled with spicy sauce and wasabi. The catch arrives at your table still warm, and you eat it while you're still on the water. Last orders go in at 10pm, and last admission is 8pm, so the timing works whether you want to arrive early for the sunset or later when the bay is darker and the lights of Pattaya reflect off the water.

The round-trip speedboat transfer is included in the price, so you don't arrange separate transport back to the pier. Bring cash or a card for anything beyond what's in your package: the cafe doesn't include other food, drinks or tips in the ticket.

Is this one for you?You do the hooking yourself from a shared floating platform, so this suits anyone who wants a hands-on moment at sea rather than just a meal: couples looking for something different, friends after a story to tell, and families with kids old enough to handle a fishing line. The first-come, first-served seating means arriving early matters if hooking is your priority.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 9 years); Infant (under 4): free.

Can I try squid hooking if I've never done it before?

Yes. Squid hooking at Tappia requires no experience. The staff will show you how to use the line and hook. Seating for the activity is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early if hooking is your main goal.

What time should I arrive to catch the sunset?

Speedboats run from 4pm to 10pm every 30 minutes. The sunset in Pattaya happens around 6:30pm depending on the season, so arriving between 4:30pm and 5:30pm gives you time to settle in and watch the light change over the bay.

What's included in the ticket besides the squid and the drink?

Your ticket covers round-trip speedboat transfer from Bali Hai Pier, access to the floating cafe lounge, one signature welcome drink, squid hooking if seating is available, and your choice of how the squid is prepared: sashimi or grilled with spicy sauce and wasabi.

Is the floating cafe accessible if I use a wheelchair?

The cafe is wheelchair accessible. Infants and small children can come in a pram or stroller, and infants can sit on an adult's lap during the speedboat ride.
