The experience
You start at 8:15 a.m. with a pickup from your hotel and a 24-gear mountain bike fitted with front suspension and a helmet. The route heads into the rural countryside immediately, moving away from Sukhothai's temples and into the working landscape where most of the region's people actually spend their days. The dirt roads pass through rice paddies and small farming settlements, and the pace is built for stopping: to talk with locals, to watch how things are made, to stand still in the middle of the fields.
Ban Khuai is the first real stop, a village where you see how rural Thai life actually works: the houses, the animals, the daily rhythm. From there you cycle along an irrigation canal to a local wood furniture workshop, where craftspeople show you how they build the pieces by hand. Depending on the season, you may help plant crops or watch the process if harvesting is underway. There's also a stop at a traditional rice whiskey producer, with a chance to taste if you want to. The riding itself is steady but not strenuous. The terrain is flat and the distances short between stops.
Lunch happens at a local restaurant before the return to your hotel. Water, snacks and drinks come with you on the bike. The guide speaks English and can answer questions about what you're seeing as you ride. The whole experience is five hours from pickup to drop-off.
