The experience

The Surin Islands are an archipelago of five islands in the Andaman Sea, 55 km from the Thai coast and part of Mu Ko Surin National Park. The main islands, Ko Surin Nuea and Ko Surin Tai, sit only 200 meters apart with a shallow corridor between them that has become one of the most popular snorkeling spots in Thailand. Beyond the main pair lie Ko Ri, Ko Khai and Ko Klang. The islands remain largely untouched, with only a small Moken village and park facilities on the land, so the reef and the water are what draw the day.

You board a speedboat in Khao Lak and cross the Andaman Sea to reach the islands, then spend the day moving between snorkeling sites where the coral gardens and marine life change with each stop. Tropical fish, sea turtles and manta rays inhabit these waters. The speedboat holds a maximum of 35 people, so the group stays manageable. A live guide in English or Thai leads the snorkeling and explains what you encounter underwater. All snorkeling equipment comes with you (mask, fins, snorkel), so you arrive ready to enter the water.

The eight-hour day includes a Thai buffet lunch and soft drinks and snacks throughout. Roundtrip hotel pickup from the Khao Lak area is part of the booking. If your hotel sits outside that zone, a surcharge applies. The tour runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only.
