If you want real confidence underwater and a certification that lets you dive worldwide, this course in Koh Samui is a solid pick. You’ll train in a pro-level pool first (no guessing), then head out with experienced instructors to some of Thailand’s best local sites—plus small groups mean you get plenty of attention.
First morning, I remember the air was thick and warm—typical for Samui. We met our instructor by the dive pool, which sits just behind a little café where the smell of strong Thai coffee drifts over. The pool itself is purpose-built, about 2-3 meters deep, so you don’t have to worry about waves or currents while you’re learning the basics. Our group was just three people, which made it feel personal—no shouting over crowds or waiting ages for your turn.
The next day, we went over the e-learning stuff together under a shaded terrace. It’s not all theory; our instructor (he’s been diving here for years) shared stories about local marine life and what to expect at the dive sites. When we finally got out on the boat to Koh Tao, I could feel my nerves kicking in—but having practiced everything in the pool made it way less intimidating. The water was clear enough that you could see schools of fish darting past even before we dropped down.
By the last dive, I’d stopped thinking about my gear and started noticing little things: how quiet it gets below the surface, or how parrotfish nibble at coral right beside you. Our instructor kept an eye on us but let us explore too. After surfacing that final time, there was this mix of relief and excitement—I knew I could do this anywhere now.
We keep groups small—never more than four students per instructor—so everyone gets plenty of guidance both in the pool and out at sea.
