The Experience

“You see that gold statue? Locals say it watches over us,” our guide said as we shuffled out of the minivan at the Big Buddha Temple. The air was thick with incense, and I could hear bells tinkling somewhere above the chatter. I’m not sure what I expected from a Koh Samui sightseeing tour, but standing barefoot on sun-warmed tiles, staring up at a 12-meter Buddha while monks drifted past in orange robes—it felt oddly grounding.
