The Experience

The day starts at Wachirathan Waterfall, one of the park's most striking drops, then moves to a hill tribe village where you can taste mountain coffee and learn about local life. A stop at the Hmong hill tribe Market follows before lunch. After eating, you drive to the highest point and begin the trek on Kew Mae Pan Nature Trail—a 3.2-kilometer walk that takes about two hours and winds through evergreen forest over the peak itself. The trail opens onto panoramic views where mountains ring the horizon, and you'll pass rare plants and wildlife along the way. The tour closes at twin pagodas before returning to Chiang Mai.

A private air-conditioned van and a licensed English-speaking guide are with you the whole day. Bottled water comes with you on the trek, and the guide carries travel accident insurance for all participants. If you're traveling between August and November, you'll see terraced rice fields in full growth on the drive up the mountain—a seasonal detail that changes the landscape considerably.
