Step-by-step itinerary
Chiang Rai evening food and sightseeing tour
- Visit Wat Huayplakang Temple
- See Chiang Rai Clock Tower and light show
- Explore Wat Rong Seur Ten (Blue Temple)
- Walk and eat at Chiang Rai Night Bazaar
The experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup and a short drive to Wat Huay Pla Kang, a massive temple complex about 5 miles north of the city center built around a giant Buddha statue, a 9-floor pagoda and a white temple. From there you move to the Clock Tower in central Chiang Rai, an ornate golden structure that hosts a laser light show at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm each evening: the operator suggests trying mango and durian sticky rice while you watch. Next is Wat Rong Seur Ten, the Blue Temple, known for its striking blue interior and large white Buddha.
The evening centers on Chiang Rai Night Bazaar, where you walk through stalls and eat at a food court your guide helps you navigate. The market has roughly 40 to 50 small food shops around its edges selling everything from pad thai and hot pot to deep-fried insects and Thai shaved ice dessert. The bazaar also has two outdoor stages for cultural performances and a beer garden if you want to linger. Your guide orders food based on what you want to try, so you sample multiple local dishes without having to figure out the menu yourself. The market also sells hill-tribe crafts, silver jewelry, embroidered bags and other goods if you want to browse between bites.
The tour runs for 4 hours total and includes an air-conditioned vehicle, professional English-speaking guide, roundtrip hotel transfer within 3 km of the city center, and admission fees to the temples. Alcoholic drinks and additional food are available to purchase on your own.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (2 to 11 years); Infant (under 2): free.
What is the Blue Temple like compared to other temples in Chiang Rai?
Wat Rong Seur Ten, the Blue Temple, is distinguished by its vivid blue interior and large white Buddha statue. The paintings inside echo the style of the nearby White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), but the blue color scheme sets it apart visually.
How does the Clock Tower light show work and when does it happen?
The Clock Tower hosts a laser light show with accompanying sound at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm each evening. The golden structure is striking during the day, but the evening projection transforms it with colored lights and effects.
What kind of food will I eat at the Night Bazaar?
Your guide helps you select from the market's roughly 40 to 50 food stalls, which offer pad thai, hot pot, mango and durian sticky rice, Thai shaved ice dessert, and other local snacks and ready-to-eat meals. The market also sells deep-fried insects if you want to try something adventurous.
What does the hotel pickup cover and how far from the city center can I be?
Roundtrip hotel pickup and drop-off are included for hotels within a 3 km radius of Chiang Rai City Center. The air-conditioned vehicle collects you at the start and returns you at the end of the tour.
