The experience
The tour starts after the sun sets, when Chiang Mai's temperature drops and the temples light up. You'll ride in a tuk-tuk through the old walled city, stopping at four temples that span centuries of Lanna architecture. Wat Phra Singh, built in the 14th century when Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, is still an active temple with monks and novices living there. Wat Chedi Luang, constructed between 1391 and 1475, holds the massive chedi (pagoda) that once made it the tallest building in the city. It also once housed the Emerald Buddha, now in Bangkok. Your guide shares stories about each place and the city itself as you move between them.
The tour ends at the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, the city's most famous market, where street-side stalls sell clothing, handicrafts and food. This is where you'll eat a simple street meal and dessert included with the tour. After that, you're free to explore the bazaar on your own or take a tuk-tuk back to your hotel (not included in the tour price). The whole experience runs four hours and suits any fitness level. Note that on Sundays the Sunday Walking Street fills the old city center and closes some roads, so arrive early to the meeting point if you're going then.
