The experience

I’ll admit, I was nervous stepping off the plane in Bangkok. The airport’s always got that sticky energy: fluorescent lights, a low hum of voices in every direction. But then I spotted my name on a sign, right by the air-bridge exit. The woman holding it smiled and waved like she’d been waiting just for me (maybe she had). It was such a small thing but honestly, after 12 hours in the air, it felt huge.

She introduced herself as May and led me down this side corridor I never would’ve noticed on my own. No crowds, no shuffling along with everyone else. Just us and that faint scent of lemongrass from her hand sanitizer (she offered me some too). The priority lane for immigration was almost empty. Just a couple of other sleepy travelers. May chatted quietly with the officer in Thai while I tried not to look too dazed. She kept glancing back to make sure I was keeping up, which was sweet because my brain was still somewhere over the Indian Ocean.

The whole process (immigration, customs) felt like it took five minutes. Maybe it was longer? Time gets weird after a long flight.
