Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the royal chapel, reserved only for the king and his family. Three bell-shaped stupas still stand, holding the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings. The temple once housed a 16-meter standing Buddha covered in 150 kilograms of gold until the Burmese army melted it down in 1767. Walking through these grounds, you're moving through centuries of devotion and loss.

The whole day runs on a fixed schedule—your guide speaks English, you get water, the van is air-conditioned, and you're back in Bangkok by evening.
