The Experience

We kicked off our Foxtrail adventure just outside Solothurn’s old town, hopping on a local bus for a quick ride up to the Capuchin monastery. The place is almost 340 years old—our guide mentioned the monks still keep their garden neat, and you can smell herbs if you walk close to the wall. It was drizzling a bit that morning, so the stone paths were slick and shiny, but it made the whole area feel even more secretive.

After cracking our first clue (which took us longer than I’d like to admit), we wound our way down to Amtshausplatz. There’s always someone cycling by here, and we had to dodge a delivery guy balancing a stack of bread from Bäckerei Studer. The city park was next—kids were chasing pigeons near the fountain while we puzzled over another riddle tucked behind a bench. From there, we followed the Aare riverbank; you could hear ducks squabbling under the bridge and catch whiffs of fresh coffee drifting from a riverside café. The trail wrapped up near the train station, just as church bells started ringing noon.
