The experience
How do you get to the Top of Europe without renting a car or navigating Swiss rail schedules? This private tour handles the driving and the mountain access in one booking. You leave Zurich in an air-conditioned vehicle with your guide, stop at Lake Lungern for photos of its turquoise water ringed by green hills, then drive to Grindelwald Terminal. There you board the Eiger Express, a cable car that climbs past the Eiger's north face and deposits you at Eigergletcher station. From there, a cogwheel train carries you the rest of the way to Jungfraujoch itself.
At the summit, the day opens up. You explore the Ice Palace, a tunnel carved into the glacier, stand on the Aletsch Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and climb an elevator to the Observatory at the very top. The 360° views stretch across snow-capped peaks toward Italy and France. The itinerary mentions snow activities and a zip line, and you'll have time to eat at one of three mountain restaurants if you want lunch. On the descent, the vehicle stops in Lauterbrunnen, where 72 waterfalls cascade down the valley cliffs, and then in Interlaken, where you can walk to the point where Lake Brienz and Lake Thun meet.
WiFi and bottled water travel with you in the vehicle. Pickup is included from your Zurich location, and the guide speaks your language. Specialized infant seats are available if you're traveling with small children, though the tour is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. The altitude and walking are real, and you should have at least moderate fitness.
