The experience
You leave Zurich by coach through the Bernese Oberland, rolling past farmland and Alpine villages toward Interlaken, where you stop briefly between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. From there the route climbs to Grindelwald, a mountain village where you board the Eiger Express: a state-of-the-art aerial cableway that swings below the Eiger's North Face on its way to Eiger Glacier. The cable car is the newest piece of the route and cuts the old journey time significantly, so more of your day stays at the summit.
At Eiger Glacier you transfer to a cogwheel train that climbs the final stretch to Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station at 3,454 meters. Once there, your guide leads you through the Alpine Sensation (a subterranean route carved into the glacier itself), and the Ice Palace, where the walls are sculpted from glacial ice. You stand on the Sphinx Observation Terrace looking out over the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in the Alps at 23 kilometers. The terrace and plateau let you walk freely among the peaks and ice fields for as long as the schedule allows.
The descent follows a different route: cogwheel train down to Kleine Scheidegg, a mountain hamlet with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, then by train through Wengen, a car-free village of chalets, and into Lauterbrunnen, a valley ringed by waterfalls. From there the coach returns you to Zurich through the late afternoon. The full day runs 12 hours door to door.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Chinese.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 15 years); Infant (under 6): free.
What is the Eiger Express and why does this tour use it?
The Eiger Express is a new aerial cableway from Grindelwald Terminal to Eiger Glacier, running below the Eiger North Face. It replaces an older, slower route, so the tour reaches the summit with more time to spend there and cuts travel time on the mountain itself.
Can I walk around freely at Jungfraujoch or does the guide keep the group together?
The Sphinx Observation Terrace and plateau are open for you to explore at your own pace once the guide has shown you through the Alpine Sensation and Ice Palace. The group reconvenes for the descent.
What is the Aletsch Glacier and where do I see it?
The Aletsch Glacier is the longest glacier in the Alps at 23 kilometers, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You see it from the Sphinx Observation Terrace at Jungfraujoch, where it spreads across the valley below the summit.
Does the tour include a stop in Interlaken or just pass through?
Interlaken is a scheduled stop where you have a short break to walk around the town, which sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland.
