experience

What’s the experience like?

The first thing I saw was this wild splash of color through the glass—like someone had poured every crayon box in Switzerland onto the walls. We’d just ducked out of the drizzle (classic Interlaken weather, honestly), and suddenly we were inside the Swiss Selfie Museum, shoes squeaking on polished floors. There was a group of teenagers giggling near a giant painted cow—one of those 3D murals that looks like it’s about to step into your photo. Our guide, Lara, waved us over and said something about “finding our inner cheese lover,” which made me snort-laugh. I’m not sure I found mine, but I did get a picture with a mountain made entirely out of painted chocolate bars.

I didn’t expect to get so into it, but after a few minutes you just… loosen up. The backdrops are weirdly fun—there’s one where you look like you’re climbing the Matterhorn (my arms still ache thinking about holding that pose). The best part was probably the ball pool, though. It’s huge and honestly kind of hypnotic when you sink in—smells faintly like new plastic and childhood birthday parties. My friend tried to do a dramatic “emerging from the depths” shot but mostly just disappeared under blue balls for five minutes. Lara took photos for us and even showed me how to use my phone’s timer better (I’m hopeless with tech stuff).

You see people from everywhere here—families with toddlers, solo travelers balancing phones on backpacks, even an older couple who spent ages perfecting their “Alpine yodel” pose (I wanted to ask if they actually yodeled at home). There’s something oddly comforting about everyone being equally awkward in front of these wild backgrounds. By the end, my camera roll was full and my cheeks hurt from laughing. I still think about that painted cow sometimes—it looked way too smug for its own good.
