The Experience

The day starts with a drive along Lake Geneva and into the Alps, heading toward the Diablerets valley at Col du Pillon. If you've booked the cable car option, you'll board the cable car for the ascent to Glacier 3000 at 3,000 meters (10,000 feet). The Peak Walk by Tissot — a 107-meter suspension bridge 80 centimeters wide — connects two mountain peaks and is the only bridge of its kind in the world. From the bridge, you can see the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau spread across the horizon. If you skip the glacier, you'll have free time to explore the Diablerets village itself.

At Glacier 3000, the marked glacier trail lets you walk the snow-covered terrain, and a panoramic restaurant designed by architect Mario Botta (who also designed the San Francisco Museum of Art) sits at the summit. Weather permitting, you can add activities like the Alpine coaster or the Snow Bus — a caterpillar-tracked vehicle that carries up to 20 people across the crisp snow. These extras are available depending on conditions and are booked separately.

The afternoon moves to Montreux, the Vaud Riviera's main town. Because of its mild Mediterranean climate, palms, pines and cypresses grow here alongside Alpine scenery. You'll have free time to wander the Old Town, visit the Queen Studio where Freddie Mercury recorded, see his statue, or simply absorb the atmosphere of a place where Charlie Chaplin, Lord Byron and Jean-Jacques Rousseau all lived. The driver guide is with you throughout, and the return journey to Geneva takes the same scenic route back along the lake.
