The experience

Trübsee sits at the middle station of Mount Titlis, reached by scenic aerial cable car from the alpine village of Engelberg. The slopes there are built for first-time skiers: no prior experience needed. A professional guide in English or Spanish teaches you the basics on terrain designed to build confidence, and all ski equipment (skis, boots, sticks, helmet) is included for the hour you spend learning. Between lessons, you can slide down on snow tubes if you want a break from the instruction.

The half-day runs 5.5 hours total, starting with a coach pickup in central Lucerne and the drive south to Engelberg. Once you've finished on the slopes and tubed your way down, you have the option to take the aerial cable car up to the Titlis summit at 3,238 meters for panoramic views of the Swiss Alps before the return journey. If you skip the summit, you head straight back down to Engelberg and the coach home. Either way, the cable cars are included in the price when you book the summit option. Without it, you only pay for the Trübsee experience and the transport.

Bring a warm winter jacket, sturdy shoes, gloves and a spare pair of trousers to change into after you finish. Food and drinks are available for purchase on site. The tour is weather-dependent, so check conditions before your departure date. If it's cancelled, you'll receive a partial refund.
