If you’re after something more than just sightseeing in Bern, this Foxtrail is perfect. You’ll solve clever clues as you wander through hidden corners of the old town—great for families or friends who love a challenge.
Right out of the train station, we were off—no time to check maps or overthink things. The Foxtrail starts fast, with the first clue tucked near a bakery that smelled like fresh Züpfe bread. Our guide handed us a slim envelope; inside, a cryptic message and a tiny map sketch. The city felt alive: trams rattling by, locals chatting in Swiss German, and somewhere nearby, church bells echoing through the narrow streets.
The puzzles had us ducking into arcades and peering at old water fountains—one clue even made us stop at an electronic sign that flashed something odd for just a second (don’t blink or you’ll miss it). We got stumped more than once but called the helpline—a real person picked up right away and nudged us back on track without giving too much away. I loved how the trail led us past postcard-perfect views of Bern’s rooftops and down to cobbled lanes where you could hear your own footsteps. The last stretch took us close to the Politzentrum, with a mannequin in a shop window pointing the way (literally). It’s not easy—kids under 11 might struggle—but if you like teamwork and don’t mind getting a bit lost, it’s honestly a blast.
The trail is best for ages 11 and up—it can be tricky for younger kids.
You can call the free helpline anytime; they’ll give you hints without spoiling the fun.
Most groups spend about 2-3 hours, but it depends how quickly you solve each clue.
