The Experience

You start near the Royal Dramatic Theatre and head into Kungsträdgården, the city's main gathering place since the 1400s, then cross into Kungsholmen — Kings Island — which became a neighborhood in the late 1600s and now holds the highest concentration of single households in Stockholm. The route takes you past Stockholm City Hall, the national romantics building with three golden crowns that anchor the skyline above Lake Mälaren, and through Rålambshovsparken, a green space built on the principle that every resident should live within 300 meters of outdoor recreation.

The bike path crosses the bridge between Södermalm and Kungsholmen — the same bridge the Stockholm Marathon crosses twice — and passes Reimersholme, the small island where Absolut Vodka's story began, and Långholmen, one of the city's greenest islands, where locals swim and eat outdoors. Södermalm itself, the largest island in the archipelago, shifted from working-class neighborhood to trendy district in recent decades. You'll ride to Skinnarviksberget, the highest natural point in central Stockholm at 53 meters, where the view opens across the water to Gamla Stan and City Hall. The tour ends near Stortorget, the Old Town's main square and the heart of Stockholm's medieval past.

The ride covers mostly flat ground with a few gentle climbs and descents, and you'll encounter cobblestones in some sections. Bring water; the tour runs in all weather, so dress for the conditions. Helmets are optional and included.
