The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Kiruna hotel and a drive to the frozen Torne River, where your snowmobile adventure begins. You'll ride with just three other machines and a guide, which means the group stays small enough to explore places inaccessible by any other vehicle: deep forests, untouched wilderness, and remote stretches of Swedish Lapland that see few visitors. The choice to drive your own snowmobile or share one with another participant is yours to make at the start.
Along the way, the guide watches for animal tracks pressed into the snow: the heart-shaped print of a reindeer, the wide hoof marks of a moose, the smaller marks of foxes, Arctic hares and owls that live in this landscape. Learning to read these signs connects you to the wilderness in a way that sitting in a vehicle never does. You'll stop at a spectacular location for photos, and warm drinks and traditional Swedish snacks break up the ride.
Boots, an overall, gloves and a helmet are provided. The tour runs roughly three to three and a half hours. A minimum age of 18 applies, and a moderate level of physical fitness helps you stay comfortable in the cold and on the machine for the duration.
