The Experience
The tour starts early at the port in St. Kitts, where you meet your guide and climb into an open safari truck with your small group. The drive to Wingfield Estate takes you past the historic village of Old Road, where the first permanent European settlement in the Leeward Islands began in the 1620s, and you'll see Carib petroglyphs carved into rock along the way. Wingfield Estate itself sits in the foothills of the central mountain range and marks the gateway to the rainforest—one of the oldest plantations on the island.
Once you reach the estate, you get out and walk the Peter Manning Trail on foot through the tropical forest. The trail runs along a river, and as you move through it you spot green vervet monkeys swinging through the tree vines overhead. If you want to cool off, you can take a dip in the river itself. The walk is steady but not rushed, and your guide points out the forest as you go. Light refreshments and bottled water are provided throughout the morning.

What's the Peter Manning Trail actually like to walk?
The Peter Manning Trail is a forest walk along a river through the Wingfield Estate rainforest, where you move at a moderate pace spotting wildlife and can swim if you choose. The trail is steady enough that you need a moderate level of physical fitness, and the guide leads the whole group together.
Do I need to arrange my own way to the Wingfield Estate?
No—pickup is included. You meet your guide at the port in St. Kitts, and the open safari truck takes you directly to Wingfield Estate, passing historic sites and petroglyphs on the way.
Can I really see vervet monkeys on this tour?
Yes, green vervet monkeys are part of the local fauna on the trail, and you spot them swinging through the tree vines as you walk. The guide knows where to look and will point them out.
What if I'm a cruise ship passenger—does the tour work with my ship's schedule?
Yes, but you'll need to provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time at booking so the tour can be timed to get you back. If your ship arrives late or you miss disembarkation, refunds won't be issued.
Is there time for lunch, or should I eat before?
The tour includes light refreshments and bottled water, but not a full lunch. Plan to eat before or after the tour depending on your schedule.
