The experience

We rolled out from the little office near the old riverbed, helmets slightly crooked and me still half-worried I’d tip over. Our guide, Marta, had this way of making you laugh at yourself. She called my first wobbly turn “the Valencian dance.” The air smelled faintly green, like cut grass after rain, even though it hadn’t rained in days. I didn’t expect the Segway to feel so smooth under my feet. It’s almost like floating but with a nervous edge (at least for the first ten minutes).

The Turia Gardens just open up in front of you: wide paths under orange trees, runners passing by with headphones, kids kicking footballs between patches of wildflowers.
