The experience
Requena's Historic Winery Murviedro sits in the old town with underground cellars that date back to the 12th century. These caves were originally built to store wine and food at a constant temperature, and you'll descend into them with your guide to taste the first wine of the day inside the stone chambers themselves. The tasting continues upstairs in the main room with two more wines and a local appetizer, the whole stop taking about 45 minutes.
Vera de Estenas, a family operation since 1876, occupies a different kind of setting: a preserved villa surrounded by vineyards of the Bobal grape, the native variety that defines Utiel-Requena wine. You'll spend about an hour and a half here, tasting three wines made from those grapes and pairing them with regional cheeses and cured meats. In season, depending on availability, the experience may include a tasting of fresh grapes from the varietal or a traditional grape-stomping demonstration.
The excursion runs about six and a half hours total from pickup in Valencia. You'll travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with an official guide who speaks your chosen language: English, Spanish, French, German or Polish. Children under 18 can participate with a non-alcoholic must tasting instead of wine. The operator will confirm your pickup details by WhatsApp or email before the day.
