Summary

Treetop thrills rope ladders and ziplines in canary pines

You’ll climb high among Tenerife’s canary pines, tackle rope ladders and Tarzan swings, then fly down giant ziplines with a local guide nearby. There’s laughter in the trees and a little courage required — but you’ll leave with hands smelling of pine sap and stories you didn’t expect to tell.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I opened my eyes to the smell of pine needles and that soft crunch underfoot — you know the one, where every step feels like it might wake up a squirrel. We’d just parked (free, by the way) at Forestal Park Tenerife, and I could already hear kids laughing somewhere above me. Our guide, Marta, handed us harnesses with a grin that said she’d seen plenty of nervous faces before. I tried not to look down when she showed us the first rope ladder — easier said than done with my knees doing their own thing.

The training bit was quick but honestly reassuring; Marta made sure even the shyest kid (and me) clipped in right. Then we were off — shuffling along wooden planks swinging between canary pines, wind tugging at my hair. The Tarzan swing looked taller from below than I’d expected. I hesitated (okay, maybe twice), but then just went for it. That jolt in my stomach halfway through? Still makes me laugh thinking about it now. Somewhere in there, a local family cheered for their youngest as she zipped past us — her dad shouted something in Spanish that I probably butchered when I tried to repeat it later.

The big zipline was the last thing we did — two and a half hours had disappeared without me noticing much except the sound of carabiners clicking and birds somewhere far off. My hands smelled like metal and tree sap after unclipping for the last time. Sunlight filtered through branches just right for photos nobody will believe are real (but they are). And yeah, I still think about that view from up high sometimes — not sure if it was braver or just lucky to have done it with friends who didn’t let me back out.
