The Experience

The route starts at the Triana Bridge, where you'll look across the Guadalquivir River toward the Triana neighborhood—the cradle of flamenco and home to the city's first Moorish ceramic factories. This is where Christopher Columbus and other navigators departed for America, loaded with merchandise from the New World. From there you cycle into Triana itself, stopping at the Church of Santa Ana, the first Catholic church built in Seville after Muslim rule ended in 1248, built in Mudéjar style.

The Torre del Oro comes next—a 12th-century Arab watchtower that once held a defensive chain stretching across the river. The guide will point out the Real Maestranza bullring and the theater nearby, and explain Magellan's first voyage around the world, which departed from this port. You'll then ride to the Palacio de San Telmo, a Baroque building that started as a marine academy in 1682, training ship pilots and navigators. The Royal Tobacco Factory follows—a massive building where 75% of the continent's cigars were made, and the setting for the opera Carmen.

The tour ends in María Luisa Park, the largest green space in Seville and the site of the 1929 Hispano-American Exposition. You'll make several stops here to walk through the plazas and gardens. The whole route takes two hours, and you'll have a map, bottled water, a helmet and a basket on the bike throughout.
