The tour starts at Alameda Park, a tree-lined green space with views across the city, then moves into the heart of Santiago. You walk through streets lined with Renaissance and Baroque noble houses (the kind with family shields carved into their stone), and pass the 16th-century Colegio de San Jerónimo, a Plateresque building that now houses university exhibitions. The route is built around the squares pilgrims reach when they finish the Camino: Plaza del Obradoiro first, where the Cathedral dominates and the Rajoy Palace, the Colegio de San Jerónimo and the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos frame the space, then the quieter Plaza de la Quintana with its Fountain of the Horses and the Church of San Paio de Antealtares behind it.

From there you move through the academic quarter: Plaza de la Universidad, where the neoclassical Faculty of Geography and History overlooks the square and the medieval Arch of Mazarelos marks the old city wall. The Church of Santa Maria de Salome, a 12th-century Romanesque temple with a Baroque tower added later, sits in the historic center. The Church of San Fiz de Solovio, one of the oldest in the city and a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles, stands near the supply market. The tour ends at the Mercado de Abastos, the traditional market where locals buy fresh produce, meat and fish, and where the city's everyday life carries on alongside the pilgrimage.
