From there you move through the academic quarter—Plaza de la Universidad, where the neoclassical Faculty of Geography and History overlooks the square and the medieval Arch of Mazarelos marks the old city wall. The Church of Santa Maria de Salome, a 12th-century Romanesque temple with a Baroque tower added later, sits in the historic center; the Church of San Fiz de Solovio, one of the oldest in the city and a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles, stands near the supply market. The tour ends at the Mercado de Abastos, the traditional market where locals buy fresh produce, meat and fish, and where the city's everyday life carries on alongside the pilgrimage.
