The experience
You start at the top of Monte Igueldo, where the views frame the whole city at once: the Bay of Biscay, the curve of the beaches, the rooflines below. Your guide walks you through the Basque Country's history here. The wool trade that made merchants rich, the shipbuilding reputation that rivaled Ferrari's in the sixteenth century. Then you descend aboard the wooden funicular, more than 100 years old, and step out next to the Peine del Viento, Eduardo Chillida's corten steel sculpture that catches the wind and spray off the rocks.
The route moves west across the city, passing the Miramar Palace (built for royal summers at the end of the 19th century), the modernist and rationalist buildings that line the bay, and the Kursaal: two structures that look like beached rocks. You'll see Sagüés and La Zurriola, where the surfing scene lives. The geography and the architecture tell the story of how San Sebastian built itself: romantic, ambitious, and always looking at the sea.
The Old Town is where the day settles. This is the gastronomic heart, the place where pintxos and cider bars define what locals do in the evening. You'll visit the most iconic bars and taste five pintxos paired with five drinks: wine, beer, cider, or soft drinks of your choice. Your guide teaches you the unwritten rules: how to order, when to pay, what a "zurrito" is, what "txikiteo" means. You'll finish with artisanal ice cream, the sweet that locals eat while walking home. By the end, you'll know how to move through these bars like someone who belongs there.

Is this one for you?At 4.5 hours, this tour fits a free afternoon or a morning after arrival, leaving your evening open for dinner elsewhere or a return to the bars on your own. The fixed route and pacing mean you move through the city's layers (geography, architecture, history, food) in one arc, rather than jumping between neighborhoods.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 17 years); Infant (under 6).
What's the view like from Monte Igueldo at the start?
Monte Igueldo sits above the entire city and the Bay of Biscay, giving you the geography and the history of San Sebastian all at once: the beaches, the rooflines, and the water that shaped the city's past as a trading and shipbuilding center.
How does the Peine del Viento sculpture work?
The Peine del Viento is Eduardo Chillida's corten steel work, deliberately rusted, positioned on the rocks where the wind and waves are strongest. It's designed to catch and scratch the elements, and it's the most photographed sculpture in the city.
What exactly do you learn about ordering pintxos in the bars?
You'll get a Master's Degree in navigating miniature cuisine: how to order a pintxo, when to pay, what the local terms mean (a "zurrito" or "caña"), and how the "txikiteo" (the uptempo bar-hopping locals do) actually works in practice.
Which pintxos and drinks does the tour include?
You'll taste five pintxos at the most iconic bars in the Old Town, paired with five drinks chosen from wine, beer, cider, or soft drinks. The tour ends with artisanal ice cream, the dessert locals eat while walking.
Does the tour include getting up Monte Igueldo, or do you take the funicular down?
Hotel pickup brings you to the top of Monte Igueldo, so you start with the views. You descend aboard the wooden funicular, which is over 100 years old, and then walk through the rest of the city on foot.
