experience

What’s the experience like?

Salt on my lips, wetsuit zipped, I shuffled down the jetty with a mix of nerves and excitement. The first morning kicked off with our instructor—Miguel—cracking a joke about how clumsy everyone looks in fins on land (he wasn’t wrong). We’d already finished the online e-learning at home, so we could jump straight into the basics in the calm bay. The water was cooler than I expected for Tenerife, but after a few minutes floating face-down, watching tiny silver fish dart below, I forgot all about it.

Confined water sessions felt like playtime—learning to clear my mask, practicing buoyancy control while trying not to bump into anyone else. Miguel kept things relaxed but always had an eye on us. By day two, we were planning our open water dives around everyone’s holiday plans. The boat rides out to different dive sites were half the fun; you could smell sunscreen and salt air mixed together as we geared up. On our third dive, a curious cuttlefish hovered just out of reach—something you don’t forget quickly.
