You’ll drive your own electric Citroën Ami through Málaga after dark—catching sunset views from Gibralfaro Castle, cruising lively neighborhoods, and seeing landmarks like the Cathedral and Pompidou Centre lit up at night. It’s relaxed, fun, and full of local flavor.
The first thing I noticed was the salty breeze rolling in from the port as we got into our tiny Citroën Ami. Our guide’s voice crackled through the radio—friendly, easygoing, with that local accent you only hear in Málaga. We fiddled with the controls for a minute (it’s simpler than it looks), then rolled out just as the sky started to turn gold and pink over the sea.
We zipped past the Pompidou’s “color cube”—it really pops at dusk, all those glass panels catching bits of neon from the harbor bars. The Malagueta neighborhood was buzzing with folks heading out for tapas; you could smell grilled sardines drifting from beachside chiringuitos. Our guide pointed out old mansions tucked behind palm trees as we climbed up towards Gibralfaro. The road twisted up through pine-scented air and suddenly, there it was: Málaga spread out below, city lights flickering on one by one. It’s quiet up there except for distant music and maybe a scooter or two.
Back down in town, we cruised through fishing barrios where locals were still chatting outside corner bars—no rush here. The car is so small you feel part of the street life, not just passing through. We passed Parque de Málaga (the orange blossoms are strong at night) and skirted La Manquita Cathedral—its stone almost glows under the lamps. There’s street art in Soho that you’ll probably miss if you’re not looking for it; our guide slowed down so we could spot some hidden murals.
The tour wrapped up right where we started, but honestly, I felt like I’d seen a different side of Málaga—one that most people miss if they only come during the day. If you like exploring at your own pace but want a local’s insight (and don’t mind driving something quirky), this is worth it.
You just need to be over 25 with at least two years’ license experience—the car is automatic and easy to handle.
