The experience

The Alcazaba opens the tour: a Moorish fortress built in the 11th century with views across the city and the harbor. Your guide walks you through the palace rooms, the fortified walls and the archaeological layers that show how the building changed hands and purposes over centuries. The Archaeological Museum sits nearby and holds the artifacts that came out of the ground here: pottery, coins, tools, the small objects that tell you how people actually lived. Both are included in your ticket.

From there the route moves through the Cathedral, where Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles collide in the same stone. The interior is dense with carvings and paintings that take time to read. The Atarazanas Market comes next, a 19th-century iron-and-glass structure where vendors sell fruit, vegetables and regional products. On Sundays when the market is closed, you'll see the architecture from the street and hear its history instead. The Roman Theatre sits outside the city center, a first-century BC structure still standing in its original spot, and you'll view it from the exterior before moving on to Picasso's birthplace in Plaza de la Merced. The square itself is one of Malaga's liveliest, and the house where he was born is now a museum dedicated to his early years.

The tour holds six people maximum in the semi-private option or just your party in the private version. A historian guide leads both, speaking the language you've chosen at booking.
