The experience
You meet your guide and walk into Jerez's old quarters, moving through streets and squares that still hold the city's medieval and Renaissance character. The route takes you past the Alameda Vieja, a green space that traces back to the Alcázar's surroundings and honors Fortun de Torres, a local hero. From there you reach the San Miguel church: a Gothic structure whose tower rises higher than any other point in the city and was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931.
The Alcázar itself is the oldest Almohad building on the Iberian Peninsula, its fortified walls dating to the 12th century. You'll see its surroundings and learn how it shaped the city's defense. You then move through the Plaza del Arroyo, one of the largest public spaces inside the old Islamic walls, where the Bertemati and Conde de Puertohermoso palaces stand. The cathedral comes next: a 17th-century structure that mixes Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical elements in a way that shows how architectural tastes shifted across centuries.
The tour runs two hours and is wheelchair accessible. Your guide is trained in art history and can conduct the walk in English, Spanish or French depending on the group. Children from age 5 can join if two adults are present in your party, and strollers are welcome for younger children. The company asks for your mobile number when you book so they can reach you before the tour starts.
