The experience

The tour starts at the Alcázar gate near Plaza de Santa Teresa and moves through Ávila's interior by tuk tuk, stopping to pass the Dávila Palace (13th century, with its viewing gallery above the wall gate) and the Torreón de los Guzmanes (16th century palace now housing a Vettones museum). You'll see the Superunda and Alamarza palaces and pass the Church and Convent of La Encarnación without descending. The route then reaches the Puerta del Rastro on the southern wall, where a brief stop shows the Paseo del Rastro and the Ambles Valley beyond.

At the Convento de la Santa, you descend for roughly 15 minutes to walk the patio of the old house, enter the basilica, and see Santa Teresa's birthplace and the chapel holding her birth bed. The relic room displays the saint's incorrupt finger. From there the tuk tuk carries you to the Mirador de los Cuatro Postes, where you stop for about 10 minutes at the Monument of the 4 Posts to photograph the wall embracing the entire city: one of the most published views of Ávila. A final five-minute stop at the North Lienzo of the Wall offers another characteristic vantage for photos before passing the Puerta de San Vicente and the cathedral (Cathedral of the Savior), where you stay in the tuk tuk but hear the guide's commentary and can photograph from your seat.

If your departure falls on a Friday, you'll pass the Plaza de Mercado Chico during its 15th-century market, where local producers sell. The tour ends near the Puerta del Carmen, which frames one of the best panoramic views of the northern canvas. Throughout, an audio guide and the driver-guide provide explanations in your chosen language.
