The experience

Lugo sits in the heart of the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve and holds two of Spain's most significant heritage sites. The Roman Wall, built around Lucus Augusti, still encircles the old city. You'll walk its perimeter and see the remains of the Roman bridge, baths and mosaics scattered through the streets. The Cathedral, one of Galicia's finest, opens for you as part of the tour, and on Mondays the towers are included so you can climb them for views across the city.

The Domus of Mitreo (an ancient temple dedicated to the oriental god Mitra) sits in the historic center and is included in your entry (closed Mondays). From there the route moves through the Plaza Mayor, Praza do Campo, and the Plaza de Santa María, where you'll see the remains of one of the best-preserved Roman pools. The town hall, built in 1738 in Baroque style, anchors the squares. After the walk, the guide leads you into the wine zone near Rua Nova and Rua da Cruz, where you can order tapas and local wine at your own pace.
