Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria Dolphin & Whale Watching Cruise
Search for dolphins and whales from a boat built to see them underwater
A 2.5-hour dolphin and whale watching cruise departs daily from Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm, carrying up to 97 guests on the Spirit of the Sea catamaran along the island's southwest coast. The boat has a glass bottom and underwater viewing windows for close observation, a live guide fluent in English, Spanish or German, and a crew trained in cetacean ecology. Hotel pickup is available from Mogán, Taurito, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, San Agustín and Bahía Feliz; if your accommodation is outside these areas, you arrange your own transport to the departure point. Soft drinks and water are included throughout.
The Experience
You arrive at Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria and board the Spirit of the Sea, a 97-seat catamaran captained by Iván López, a certified whale-watching expert with 15 years of experience. The boat leaves at either 10:30 am or 1:30 pm and heads out along the southwest coast for 2.5 hours, searching for dolphins and whales in waters where up to 30 species of cetaceans live year-round. The vessel is designed specifically for this work — two decks offer panoramic views, and the underwater viewing windows let you watch marine life below the surface without leaving your seat.
Your guide speaks English, Spanish or German and carries extensive knowledge of cetacean history and ecology, narrating what you're seeing and answering questions as the crew scans for activity. When dolphins or whales appear, the boat slows and positions itself to give you an unobstructed view while keeping a respectful distance. The crew holds all necessary permits from the Canary Islands Government and operates under protocols that prioritize the animals' well-being over the sighting itself.
Throughout the cruise, soft drinks and water keep you comfortable on deck. The boat also provides QR codes linking to additional information about the species you encounter, and replicas of whale and dolphin teeth you can handle to understand their scale. If you booked with hotel pickup, the driver collects you from your accommodation in the Mogán, Taurito, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, San Agustín or Bahía Feliz areas and returns you after the cruise ends.

What time does the dolphin and whale watching cruise depart from Puerto Rico?
The Spirit of the Sea departs at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm daily, giving you two windows to fit the 2.5-hour cruise into your schedule.
Can I see the underwater world on this cruise without diving?
Yes — the catamaran has a glass bottom and underwater viewing windows, so you watch dolphins, whales and other marine life from inside the boat without getting wet.
Is hotel pickup included, and which areas does it cover?
Hotel pickup is included if you book that option and stay in Mogán, Taurito, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, San Agustín or Bahía Feliz; the driver confirms your exact pickup time during booking. If your accommodation is outside these areas, you arrange your own transport to the Puerto Rico departure point.
What languages does the guide speak?
The live guide speaks English, Spanish and German, and the crew has extensive training in cetacean ecology and behavior.
How many people typically go on this cruise?
The Spirit of the Sea accommodates up to 97 guests, so you're part of a group rather than a private tour, though the two decks and size of the boat mean there's room to spread out.
What's included in the cruise price?
The 2.5-hour sightseeing cruise, soft drinks and water throughout, and the live guide are included; hotel pickup is included only if you select that option at checkout. A bar area on the boat offers beer and snacks for purchase.
