The experience

I didn’t expect my heart to thump so fast just from turning the key, but there’s something about sitting in a buggy under the Gran Canaria sun that makes you feel like you’re about to do something a bit wild. Our guide, Carlos, handed out these chunky goggles (“for the dust,” he grinned), and then we were off, engines buzzing louder than I thought they would. The first stretch was smooth, winding up paved roads with those dry hills on either side. I kept catching whiffs of eucalyptus and honestly, my hands were already sticky from gripping the wheel too tight.
