You’ll drive your own buggy through Gran Canaria’s Fataga Park with a local guide leading the way. Expect dusty hair, laughs at the Ayagaures viewpoint, off-road tracks past palm trees and bamboo, plus time for photos and swapping stories with other travelers. The wind and sun hit different out here — you’ll remember it every time you see red dirt on your shoes.
I didn’t expect my heart to thump so fast just from turning the key, but there’s something about sitting in a buggy under the Gran Canaria sun that makes you feel like you’re about to do something a bit wild. Our guide, Carlos, handed out these chunky goggles — “for the dust,” he grinned — and then we were off, engines buzzing louder than I thought they would. The first stretch was smooth, winding up paved roads with those dry hills on either side. I kept catching whiffs of eucalyptus and honestly, my hands were already sticky from gripping the wheel too tight.
Carlos waved us over at the Ayagaures “Pedro González” viewpoint. It’s one of those spots where everyone goes quiet for a second — just mountains rolling out forever and that little blue reservoir way down below. I tried to get a photo but it never looks the same as when you’re standing there. There was this couple next to us laughing in Spanish about their hair full of dust; it made me realize how much messier I looked than I felt. We all swapped phones for pictures (Carlos took one of us with his thumb halfway over the lens — classic).
After that, things got bumpier fast. We dropped down toward the reservoir and suddenly we were rattling along dirt tracks between bamboo stalks and palm trees, dust flying everywhere. The buggy’s engine sounded almost relieved to be off-road. At one point, a goat wandered across our path — not fazed at all by our convoy of noisy tourists. I still think about that view back at the top though, how it felt standing there with my helmet crooked and shoes full of gravel.
Your day includes an 800cc two-seater buggy ride through Fataga Park, cross-protection goggles for every rider, hotel pickup if arranged beforehand, plus insurance coverage throughout your adventure before returning to your accommodation.
