Cross the island from coast to coast, stopping at a volcano, a lighthouse and windmills along the way.

A four-hour guided tour of northern Fuerteventura departing from Corralejo that crosses the island from the east coast to the west, with stops at Bayuyo volcano, the village of Lajares, El Cotillo lighthouse and Castillo del Tostón, Villaverde Windmills, and the Corralejo dunes. Groups stay under eight people in an air-conditioned van, and the guide shares local history and anecdotes at each stop. The tour runs in English, Spanish, Italian or French, and includes two bottles of water per person and insurance.

The experience

The van leaves Corralejo heading north and inland toward Bayuyo volcano, then follows a scenic route between volcanic peaks to reach Lajares, a small village where the landscape shifts from dark stone to cultivated land. From there the route turns west to El Cotillo, where you stop at the lighthouse and the ruins of Castillo del Tostón, a sixteenth-century fortress overlooking cliffs and open ocean. The guide shares facts about the island's history and traditions as you move between stops.

After a thirty-minute break (with access to restrooms and the chance to buy snacks), the tour continues inland past the Arena Volcano to Villaverde Windmills, where you can see the mechanical mills that once powered the island's agriculture. A stop in La Oliva's main square lets you visit a small church before the route winds through the village of Vallebrón. The tour ends on the Corralejo dunes, where the light and the sand create the landscape most visitors came to see. Throughout the day, the guide will photograph you at the stops if you ask. You can purchase the images afterward.

The van seats up to six passengers in air-conditioned comfort, and water is provided. The guide speaks one of four languages (English, Spanish, Italian or French), and the tour is designed to move at a relaxed pace, giving you time to look and ask questions rather than rush between points.

What’s included

  • Air-conditioned van transport.
  • two 50cl bottles of water per person.
  • insurance.
  • live guide commentary in English, Spanish, Italian or French.
