The experience

You start in Frigiliana, a village the itinerary calls one of Spain's most beautiful, known for its role as "the city of the three cultures" because of its Moorish history in the mountains of la Axarquía. A licensed local guide leads a 1.5-hour walk through the streets, explaining the Moorish past and the region's history. After the tour ends, you have free time to wander on your own: a glass of wine at a bar, a look at the shops, whatever the village offers at your own pace.

Then you drive into the mountains to El Acebuchal, a village abandoned after the Spanish Civil War and now completely restored. It sits in a natural park and carries the weight of that history, but the restoration has brought it back to life. One of the area's most well-known restaurants operates there, and that is where you eat. A menu made from local products. The meal is homemade Spanish food, not a tourist plate. After lunch, your guide drives you back to your hotel on the coast.

The group is small: three to eight people, no more. Your guide is also your driver, which means no handoff, no waiting for a second van, and someone who knows the region speaking English, German or Spanish depending on the group. The whole day runs 5.5 hours from pickup to drop-off. Bring comfortable shoes for the Frigiliana walk, a water bottle, and sunscreen if you are traveling in the hot months.
