Step-by-step itinerary

Guadalest visit and winery tasting

  • Explore Guadalest medieval village
  • Visit San José Fortress
  • Enjoy panoramic reservoir views
  • Guided winery tour
  • Taste 7 wines with appetizers

The Experience

Guadalest sits on a hilltop overlooking the Costa Blanca, and the tour starts there—you'll walk through the medieval village and climb to the San José Fortress to see the panoramic views across the reservoir and surrounding mountains. The castle entrance is included, and the guide explains the history as you move through it. This is not a long hike; it's a walk through a real place that has stood for centuries, and the views are the kind people photograph and send home.

After Guadalest, you head to Bodegas Enrique Mendoza, a local winery known for its winemaking tradition. Here the tasting begins—seven wines, each one explained by someone who knows the vineyard and the process. The wines come with a spread of local appetizers: cheese, cured meats, bread and olive oil. You taste and eat at your own pace; this is not a rushed tasting-room experience. The winery is small enough that the group of up to twelve people can move through it without feeling crowded.

Transportation is handled by car from your hotel or the port, and the driver is your guide for the whole day. Bottled water is provided. The tour runs about five and a half hours, which gives you time to linger at both stops without feeling hurried. You choose your guide's language—English, Spanish or Russian—when you book.

Is this one for you?If your guide speaks English, Spanish or Russian, you'll follow the commentary comfortably throughout the day—the winery tasting especially benefits from understanding the winemaker's explanation of each wine. The small group size and the half-day format work well if you want a cultural and culinary experience without committing a full day, or if you're arriving or departing by ship and need a tour that fits a port schedule.
