7-day Spanish course at tutor's home in Santander

Live like family, cooking and sharing moments in a historic countryside home

A 7-day Spanish course taught at your tutor's home in Aés, Puente Viesgo, near Santander on Spain's north coast. You attend tuition Monday to Friday, stay in a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and take all meals with your hosts: learning to cook Spanish dishes alongside classroom instruction. Airport pickup and full board accommodation are included. Groups stay under ten students.

The experience

When you arrive at Santander Airport or ferry terminal, pickup is arranged to get you to the house in Aés, a traditional 1780s building set 20 km inland. You'll have your own bedroom with a private bathroom, so the privacy is there when you need it, but the rest of the time you're part of the household. Merche is a trained cook and will teach you how to make tortilla de patatas and paella while you eat what she prepares. Fernando taught Spanish at the University of Surrey and the BBC and holds a European Award for Languages from the EU and British Government. Both speak English and Spanish, and tuition runs Monday through Friday using materials their team has designed.

Free time fills the afternoons and weekends. The area has walks through valleys and mountains, and the Monte Castillo caves (with prehistoric paintings from 40,000 to 19,000 BC) are nearby. El Balneario de Puente Viesgo, one of Spain's most famous spas, is close enough for a day visit. Local bars and restaurants in town offer good value. You can spend a free afternoon exploring or simply resting at the house.

The course runs all seven days: breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, plus tea or coffee whenever you want it. Courses are available for all levels, and the small group size means maximum ten students. If you have dietary requirements, let them know when you book.
