Includes vegetarian options and flexible start times.★ 4.63 (139)3hUS$ 175View › The first thing I noticed stepping onto the dock at Ttukseom Hangang Park was how different the city felt from here—like someone had turned down the volume on Seoul for a bit. Koa greeted me with this big grin (he really is as warm as everyone says), and handed me a life jacket that still smelled faintly of river water and sunblock. There were a few locals stretching out on the grass nearby, but mostly it was just us, the boards, and the skyline peeking over the trees. I’d never tried stand-up paddleboarding before, so I wobbled a little—Koa didn’t laugh, just gave me a thumbs up and told me to look ahead, not down. Good advice.
Paddling out, you get this wide-open view of Seoul you don’t see from anywhere else. The water in this part of the Han River is clearer than I expected—Koa said it’s cleaner up here compared to other parks. You can spot Lotte Tower off in the distance and Namsan Tower if you squint past the bridges. It was early evening when we went, so there was that soft gold light on everything and a breeze that made my shirt stick to my back one minute and cool me off the next. A couple of kids waved from shore; someone’s radio played old K-pop quietly behind us.
I tried kayaking too (switching is easy—you just paddle back to swap gear). The rhythm of dipping my paddle into the water got kind of meditative after a while. Koa pointed out some birds nesting along the bank—herons maybe? I still think about how peaceful it was out there, even though Seoul traffic isn’t far away at all. We talked about where he grew up and how he started offering these tours in English because nobody else was doing it yet. He told me most people don’t realize how good mornings are here—less wind, almost no one around except a few joggers and fishermen.
Afterwards, we rinsed off in the public shower room (bring flip-flops if you’re picky) and sat on the steps for a bit watching the sky change colors over Ttukseom Park. My arms were tired but in that way where you feel like you actually did something with your day. If you’re looking for a different side of Seoul—one that’s quieter but still right in the middle of everything—I’d say this Han River kayaking & SUP experience is worth waking up early for… or catching sunset if you’re more of a night owl.
