The experience
Your guide meets you at your Busan hotel and drives you to Junam Wetlands Park, a Ramsar-listed habitat where the season decides what you see. In winter, migratory birds fill the water: white-naped cranes, Chinese orioles and dozens of other species move through on their route south. Spring brings lotus flowers across the wetland surface. The guide walks the park with you and names what appears, using binoculars to pick out birds at distance.
After lunch, you head to Haeinsa Temple on Gaya Mountain, one of Korea's three jewel temples. The temple's fame rests on the Goryeo Daejanggyeong, also called the Tripitaka Koreana: woodblocks carved in the 13th century with Buddhist scriptures, considered the most complete collection in existence. You walk the temple grounds and see the storage buildings where the blocks are kept. The drive back to Busan takes the late afternoon.
A moderate amount of walking is involved at both stops, and comfortable shoes matter. The tour is subject to change without notice due to local weather, which can shift what birds appear or how accessible the mountain paths are on the day. Groups stay under nine people, and a minimum of three people per booking applies.
