The experience

The safari departs from your hotel in Malelane, Marloth Park or Komatipoort and heads into Kruger National Park in an open-sided vehicle built for sightlines in every direction. Your guide is a professional who knows the park's roads and animal patterns. The vehicle has USB charging at each seat and bottled water for the drive. The route is built around finding wildlife, so the stops and the pace follow where animals are moving that day rather than a fixed itinerary.

Six and a half hours covers a breakfast stop of about an hour and a picnic spot where you get out to stretch and scan for movement. The Big 5 are the target, but the guide will also work to show you cheetah, wild dog and other animals that are harder to spot. You'll have time to buy curios at the stops if you want them. Meals beyond the breakfast stop and entry to the park are your own cost unless you arrange them with the operator before you book.

What’s included

Is this one for you?At six and a half hours including stops, the safari fits a morning or afternoon but leaves the rest of your day free for other activities in the region. If you want a full-day immersion in the park with more driving time and more ground covered, a longer safari would suit you better.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 12).

What animals am I likely to see on a half-day Kruger safari?

The Big 5 are the main target: lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo. The guide will also search for cheetah and wild dog, which are rarer and require knowing where they've been spotted recently. What you see depends on the day, the season and where the animals are moving, so sightings are never guaranteed.

How long is the actual drive time versus the total six-and-a-half-hour booking?

The six-and-a-half-hour total includes a breakfast stop of roughly an hour and a picnic break at a spot along the route. The rest is driving and watching from the vehicle, so you're in the park for most of the time but not moving the entire duration.

Do I need to arrange my own entry fee to Kruger, or is it included?

Entry to Kruger National Park is not included in the safari price and is your responsibility. You'll pay it separately when you enter the park. Hotel pickup and drop-off, the guide, the vehicle and bottled water are all included.

Can I book this safari from Komatipoort, or do I have to stay in Malelane or Marloth Park?

Hotel pickup is included from Malelane, Marloth Park or Komatipoort, so the safari can depart from any of those three towns depending on where you're staying. Let the operator know your location when you book.

Are meals included, or do I pay for breakfast and lunch separately?

Breakfast and lunch are not included unless you arrange them with the operator before booking. Bottled water is provided during the drive, but food is your own cost at the stops or you can bring your own.
