The experience
Your day starts with a 40-minute drive from East London to Chintsa. A local guide meets you on arrival and leads a walk through the village, showing you both the affluent neighborhoods and the township while explaining the community's history, schools, and youth development projects. This is not a passing glance. The guide lives here and speaks from direct knowledge of how the place works.
At Onwaba Drop-In Centre, you meet Temi, who runs the space and tells you why it exists. You then move into the practical work: helping prepare and serve meals for the children who come through, followed by time to sit with them, talk, and take photos. This is the core of the experience, not watching from a distance, but doing the work alongside the staff.
After the centre, you transfer to Crawford's Beach Lodge for lunch (at your own expense) and the rest of the afternoon. The beach is steps away if you want to swim or walk. Hay clay Pottery & Painting Studio is also nearby if you'd rather make something. Your driver brings you back to East London as the day ends.
