The experience

The first thing I noticed was the way the city glowed at night, not just the lights, but the energy. The music was mostly amapiano and Afrobeats, kind of hypnotic. At one point, a group next to us started singing along and invited us over: suddenly we were all shouting lyrics together. That’s when it hit me how different nightlife feels here: less about showing off and more about letting loose.

By midnight we’d already hit two more spots: Saints Champagne Bar had these wild neon lights that made everyone look movie-ready (or maybe that was just my third cider talking). The crowd skewed younger at one club. I tried to keep up with their dance moves but mostly failed. Zama laughed and tried teaching me a step or two, but I think I embarrassed myself more than anything. Still, nobody cared.
