Kayak the Sava River near Bled for two hours with a professional English-speaking guide, learning basic techniques before paddling through rapids and scenic gorge sections. The Experience

The driver picks you up at your Bled accommodation or nearby village and takes you to the starting point, a 10–15 minute drive away. Once there, the guide walks you through the gear-up: life jacket, wetsuit, water shoes, helmet, paddle and kayak. An English-speaking, fully licensed white water rescue technician leads the group down the Sava, staying close to make sure everyone stays safe and on course. Before you push off, you'll learn the basic paddling techniques on calmer water so you know what to do when the current picks up.

The paddle itself runs through stunning scenery and down a series of fun rapids—level 2 with some level 3 sections mixed in. About three-quarters of the way down, the guide stops at a small cliff where you can jump into the river if you want to. After that, the river eases into a gentler section where you float through a scenic gorge to the finish, where the vans are waiting. A GoPro camera captures the run, so you get photos and video to take home.

Once you're out of the water, the driver takes you back to your accommodation. The whole experience—pickup, instruction, paddling, the cliff jump, the float, and return—fits into two hours of activity time, leaving the rest of your day open.

Do I need to know how to kayak before I book this?

No. The guide teaches basic paddling techniques before you start down the river, and the Sava is a good learning river for beginners as well as intermediate kayakers. You do need to be a swimmer and at least 150 centimeters tall.

What happens at the cliff jump, and is it mandatory?

About three-quarters of the way down the river, the guide stops at a small cliff where you can jump into the water if you want to. It's optional—you can skip it and stay in the kayak, and the guide supervises anyone who does jump.

What's included in the kayaking gear?
