The experience

Eight stops means eight chances to eat, not eight minutes at each one. You start at Tartini Square and move through Piran's actual neighborhood restaurants, the places locals return to, tasting dishes built around what the region does best: seafood, truffles, olive oil and wine. Your guide gives you the stories behind each dish and the region's food culture, so you know what to order when you come back on your own.

The wine and grappa arrive as you eat: 4 glasses of local wine across the stops, plus grappa at the end, paired with 8 different olive oil tastings. Homemade ice cream closes the tour. Nothing is plated for show. Everything is food people in Piran actually eat. Small groups stay under a certain size: no umbrella tours, no following a flag through the streets.

The whole thing runs 3.5 hours. Bring an appetite and no calorie counter. Infants can come in a stroller, and service animals are welcome.

What kind of food will I taste on this tour?

The eight stops feature seafood, meat, pasta, truffles and salami: dishes built around what Istria is known for. Each stop pairs the food with wine or grappa, and you'll also taste eight different local olive oils across the tour.

How much wine is included in the tour price?

Four glasses of local wine are included, plus one grappa at the end of the tour.

Will I have time to actually eat at each stop, or is it just small tastes?

The tour is built around eating real dishes at each of the eight stops, not sampling bites. The 3.5-hour length gives you time to sit and eat at each place, not rush through.

What is Tartini Square and why does the tour start there?

Tartini Square is the main public square in Piran's old town, a natural gathering point in the city center where the tour begins before moving into the neighborhoods where the best eateries are.

Is this tour suitable if I have dietary restrictions?

The tour centers on seafood, meat and truffles, so if you have restrictions, contact the operator before booking to discuss what can be arranged at each stop.
