The Experience

The ticket seller at Faber Peak station barely looked up when I asked which line to take first—she just pointed at the Mount Faber Line and said most people do that one, then loop back on the Sentosa Line. That small piece of local knowledge saved me from the backwards route, and it's the kind of thing you only learn by asking someone who works there. The Singapore Cable Car Sky Pass gives you unlimited rides on both lines, so the order is yours, but the Mount Faber Line is the one that takes you up and out—you leave from Singapore's only hilltop destination and fly across the harbour, with the city rising up on one side and the sea opening out on the other. On clear days you can spot dolphins in the water below, near Resorts World Sentosa's Adventure Cove, though I won't promise you'll see them every time.

Once you land on Sentosa Island, you can either hop straight back on the cable car or step out and explore. The Sentosa Line is the newer route, and it runs over jungle, sand, and sea—a completely different view from the Mount Faber crossing. There are three stations where you can get off: Merlion, Imbiah Lookout, and Siloso Point. Each one connects to different attractions on the island, so if you want to visit Universal Studios Singapore or the S.E.A. Aquarium, you pick the stop that works for your plan. You're not locked into a tour schedule; the cable car runs all day and you can ride back and forth as many times as you want with your Sky Pass.

The whole thing is wheelchair accessible, and there's public transport nearby if you need it, though most people either drive or take a taxi to Faber Peak to start. The views are the real draw here—you're not sitting in a cabin with a hundred other people watching the same thing through glass. You're actually suspended over the water and the trees, which is a different experience entirely. It takes maybe ten or fifteen minutes per line, depending on where you stop, so you can spend an hour up there or half a day, depending on whether you want to add on the attractions or just ride for the views.
