Spend a full day at the loom and leave with a scarf only you could make

Weave a tartan or striped scarf on a rigid heddle loom in a full-day workshop in Stirling. You choose three yarn colours, learn to warp and dress the loom from a skilled instructor, and walk away with a finished scarf. All equipment, materials, tea and coffee are provided. The workshop runs eight hours and welcomes anyone aged 12 and above, from complete beginners to experienced weavers.

The experience

You arrive with an afternoon or a full day free and leave with something you made with your own hands. The workshop starts by teaching you how to warp a rigid heddle loom. The setup that holds the yarn in place and lets you weave. A skilled artisan walks you through each step, showing you how to thread the wool and dress the loom so the colours sit exactly where you want them. You pick three shades from the available yarns, whether you're drawn to bold plaids, subtle checks or clean stripes, and that choice is what makes your scarf one of a kind.

The loom itself does most of the heavy lifting once it's set up. Your job is to pass the shuttle back and forth, watching the pattern emerge row by row. The rhythm of it is meditative rather than demanding, and the workshop is built around that pace. You get a leisurely lunch break (bring your own or step out to one of the cafes near Murray Place), and tea, coffee and biscuits are on hand throughout the day to keep you comfortable. If you want to elevate the finished scarf, you can upgrade to premium Rowan Felted Tweed yarn at checkout, which gives the weave a softer, more luxurious feel.

Eight hours is enough time to move from "how does this work?" to "I wove this." The instructor is there the whole time, answering questions and making sure you're not fighting the loom. By the end of the day you'll have a scarf that's ready to wear, not a half-finished project or a kit to complete at home.
