The experience

You board a purpose-built Humber Rib Aurora at Corpach Marina and head straight onto Loch Linnhe. The boat accelerates across open water with Ben Nevis rising in the distance, and the skipper steers toward Seal Island (Black Rock) where Common and Atlantic Grey seals haul out on the rocks. The wildlife on any given trip varies: porpoises, otters and seabirds show up when they're there, so no two runs are the same.

Midway through, the skipper spins the boat in tight, fast circles, sending up spray and banking hard enough to make you grip the rail. It's the kind of moment that feels reckless and controlled at once. On the return, you watch the Jacobite Steam Train puff past the shoreline if the timing lines up, then head back to Corpach Marina. The whole thing runs one hour from start to finish.

Lifejackets are supplied and worn throughout. The boat holds a maximum of 12 passengers, which keeps the experience intimate rather than crowded. A minimum of 6 people is needed to depart. If your booking falls short, the operator will contact you to discuss moving to another time slot or adding passengers to meet the minimum.

Operated by Cruise Loch Linnhe

Is this one for you? This is a shared boat with up to 12 passengers and a live skipper steering the action, so you're along for the ride rather than controlling the boat yourself. It suits anyone craving adrenaline and wildlife spotting in one go, though the speed and tight turns mean it's not a gentle cruise: hold on and expect to get wet.

What wildlife might I actually see on the Loch Linnhe speed boat?

Seals at Black Rock are the main draw, and you'll spot Common and Atlantic Grey seals hauled out on the rocks. Porpoises, otters and seabirds appear on many trips, though sightings depend on what's active that day: wildlife is never guaranteed, so each run is different.

How fast does the Rib go, and what's the donut maneuver like?

The Humber Rib Aurora is built for speed and stability. The skipper performs tight, fast spins in the water that send up spray and banking that makes you hold on. It's designed to be thrilling without being unsafe.

Will I see Ben Nevis and the Harry Potter train from the boat?

Ben Nevis is visible throughout the trip as you race across Loch Linnhe. The Jacobite Steam Train (the Harry Potter train) sometimes passes the shoreline during the return leg, depending on the schedule and timing of your departure.

What's the minimum group size, and what happens if we don't meet it?

A minimum of 6 passengers is required to run the adventure. If your booking doesn't reach that number, the operator will contact you to either move your booking to another time slot or discuss adding passengers to meet the minimum.
